Radio Nowhere - London Calling

Posted by rdub . Filed under Recordings

Today’s feature is a tracked called London Calling from Radio Nowhere. Radio Nowhere is an alternative pop rock band from Oakland, CA, that sounds like Elvis Costello fronting Counting Crows. They’re releasing a 4-track debut EP for free from their website: www.radionowhere.net.

That website also keeps with the Music 2.0 trend by having a blog in which the band chronicles the source of their inspiration for songs, even posting original, rough sketches (something that we’ve never felt able to do for fear of sheer embarassment). It sounds good, though, and offers an insight into the mind of the artist: something that potential fans can connect with in a way that was never-before possible.

Check out Radio Nowhere at their website, or on Twitter, @radionowhere.  Or, you can just listen here:

Derek Jordan - Vaccine

Posted by rdub . Filed under Recordings

Breaking from the chill vibe of the last track, today we have a nice, heavy rock track from Derek Jordan, called Vaccine. He describes his music as “rock music that sounds like a bull shark devouring your comfort food…”  We’d say his effective use of vocal chorus effects makes it sound a bit more like Ozzy Ozbourne back when he still had a functional memory, and with a slightly better voice.

But don’t take it from us, just give it a listen:

Derek Jordan can be found on his web site: www.derekjordanmusic.com, on Twitter, @DerekJordanRock, or, in keeping with Music 2.0 (as they’re calling it), Derek has a blog covering his progress of recording his upcoming album, which you can find here: derekjordansblog.blogspot.com.

David J. Hahn - Alone at Home

Posted by rdub . Filed under Recordings

Today’s piece, Alone at Home, is a classical piano styled submission from David J. Hahn, broadway music director.  In addition to extensive experience in Broadway, David has also released his own album under his own label.  That album, Straight Ahead, is available on iTunes from Preservation Records.

David is also a proud cancer survivor - a fact he displays on his main online presence: http://davidjhahn.org/

You can find David on Twitter, @davidjhahn, on myspace.com/djhahn, or on iTunes.

Take a listen to this very chill, yet moving piano track: Alone at Home.

The Minor Kings - Red Flags (Green Lights)

Posted by rdub . Filed under Recordings

Today’s track is called Red Flags (Green Lights) and it’s from The Minor Kings‘ free music release produced by Brian Virtue.  The rest of the tracks are available from their website, www.theminorkings.com.  You can check out their website at the above address, donate (because every musician needs support), and even follow the band on twitter: @theminorkings.

The Minor Kings are a melodic-rock band from Nashville, TN, that is independently and locally produced.  They believe that music is a service and its purpose is to be heard.

Personally, their sound reminds me of a cross between Oasis and Audioslave.  They’ve got the catchiness of Oasis, along with the more grunge rock guitar sound of Audioslave.  Unlike a lot of today’s bands, it appears that great care has been taken in producing a mix where the lead vocals cut right through to the front - a feature that I’ve come to appreciate as being actually quite difficult to achieve.

Without further ado, we give you The Minor Kings - Red Flags (Green Lights).  Hope you enjoy!

Matt Morrell - History of Love

Posted by rdub . Filed under Recordings

Today’s jam comes from Virginia native Matt Morrell.  Currently recording and performing in New York, Matt’s Indie-rock style is reminiscent of Bright Eyes, or a less grungy Two Gallants.  This track is called “History of Love,” and is off his upcoming album, “Evette.”  Evette is currently available for download from Amazon, and will see a physical CD release date of 1/13/2009.

Check out Matt Morrell’s website for more information: www.mattmorrell.com

Solarosa - Del Ray

Posted by rdub . Filed under Recordings

Our next track is from the New Zealand band Sola Rosa. They’ve kindly donated “Del Ray” from their upcoming album “Get It Together,” which is due for release in early 2009.  The track is also available for free from their website, www.solarosa.com/blog, so definitely head on over there and get a copy if you like it!

Sola Rosa started as a one man show, and now boasts members from some other successful bands like Fat Freddy’s Drop (highly recommended),  and Pluto (also highly recommended).  They’ve got a unique, latin nu-jazz sound in today’s track, so definitely give it a listen.

Check out Sola Rosa at @solarosa, their website, bandcamp, iTunes, or Amazon MP3.

Signal Hill - Celadon

Posted by rdub . Filed under Recordings

Hey everyone, thanks for listening!  This submission comes from a Los Angeles based instrumental rock/jazz group Signal Hill.  The track is called Celadon and is from their 2007 self-titled debut EP.  I like this track’s instrumental ebb and flow.  It’s almost reminiscent of Minus the Bear’s instrumental interludes on their Menos El Oso album, but with less of an electronica flair.

Hit up and purchase some Signal Hill music on CDBaby, iTunes, or check out their website, www.signalhillmusic.com.

In the meantime, take a listen to this track!

Athena Rahm - Day Dreaming

Posted by rdub . Filed under Recordings

Our first submission came from the piano styling of Athena Rahm.  This piece was cut in one take, and is entitled “Daydreaming.”  Athena says she does not read music. Instead, every song is an inspiration, completely a product of her mood and emotions.

Enjoy!
